Staff stories: Robert Ogutu Okungu, Senior Security Officer
I would like to declare how happy I am to be employed particularly in Double Joy Children's Home in order to get an opportunity to serve and care for orphans. Just as I've noted, it's not easy to get employment, especially in Kenya. To me, I am wholeheartedly thankful to Almighty God to have given our beloved mother, Madam Mary Hinde, the ability to think of such a project and initiate it to help and care for desperate orphans in our community. Actually this project has greatly given us a challenge. In the first place, we have got a chance to serve socially and get paid after, which we can get to help our families. Secondly, we learn and achieve a lot of experience.
I am personally exposing my joy because I was orphaned in my early age. This is to say that my parents died before I could be able to care for myself. Alongside that, we were born three children, but due to God's own choice, the two brothers died and God had spared me to live and serve. So my work in Double Joy is a challenge to me. I've sought and am still seeking to work with competence, righteousness and respect and this job has given a lot of compassion at my home.
In my community, we are God fearing and we have always prayed and lived together. Whenever we pray, we have not forgotten to pray for Double Joy. This institution has done us proud. It has helped and assisted our community in several ways and occasions not to mention. Singling out my job in this institution, I am serving as a senior watchman and I'm sure many people would hate this kind of job but to me it is just like any other jobs. It's not a joke. Being a security officer is challenging. It needs total responsibility and vigilance. It has made me responsible at home and in the community and this is a job to reckon with. I would call upon my staff mates to work in harmony and come together to mould the youth for a better tomorrow.
May God bless Double Joy, may He bless Madam Mary Hinde, the children, the entire staff and all the donors to live long and give support.
