Staff stories: Lilian Owade Agutu, Accounts Clerk

I am Lilian Owade Agutu, born on 15 December 1980 in Kenya. I'm an employee in Double Joy as from 15 September 2005 working as an Accounts Clerk.

My main duties in Double Joy is to ensure that the salaries and suppliers are well paid. I also ensure that the inventories of Double Joy are safe and in good order.

I come from Rarieda Constituency in Asembo and we are really suffering there because there is too much drought from July to February. This results in too much famine and we really starve most of the time because the price of things like maize, millet, sugar, vegetables etc increase seriously. In our family, I am the fifth born and we are ten children. I have both of my parents though they are jobless. Among our family I am the only person who has been employed and all these people are now depending on me. I'm earning a little money and this forces me to divide it together with our family so as to count days and life continues. I also have five children, the eldest is in std three, 2nd born is in std one and the other one is in Nursery while the rest are at home.

I also serve the community by ploughing vegetables though they are not doing well because they require some medicines which are so expensive for me to afford at this moment. I also managed to have the dairy cows in the village though they are not producing good milk because of the higher maintenance they need.
