A story written by Miriam, a child at Double Joy.
My life at Double Joy compared with my life at home
My life at home was alright but after the dangerous thing appeared to our lonely home and took away my beloved and polite parents and left me with my grandparents. From the day after their burial life was no longer enjoyable. My older brother was able to go to school but me I was still not going because the day I was to go was the day I lost my father. So life was now becoming very difficult as everything was changing. I was becoming amazed about it and I was lonely hoping that without that dangerous thing all would have been alright.
Maybe at home I was not able put on clean clothes always and sometimes there was not enough food for the day and worst was that there was a lot of work to be done every day and eating less food. I was lacking books, pens, pencils, uniforms and most for having no school fees. Because of my old grandparents life was not all that easy and from day-to-day there was something wrong and at home when I was sick it was very hard to go to the hospital because of transport.
But now I am here at Double Joy I thank God always and I thank our donors and Mary Hinde for the faith and kindness she has. With me now I’m having everything needed for life and there is food, hospital and also birthdays. So here it is safe and very comfortable and education is also very high.
I take this opportunity to thank our living God for the help I’m getting from everybody. In my life I want to go to Maseno Youth Polytechnic and open my own business workshop and this will happen through you our donors and Mary Hinde who is an honest and loving mother, like Mother Teresa of Calcutta. May God watch over you always and thank you very much. From Miriam Awuor Ongaya.
